Our Lady of Oswaldtwistle

On the 8th September (which is the feast of Our Lady's Birthday), in 1948 St. Mary's was formally consecrated because the parish was finally debt free for the first time since 1897! By the side entrance to the church (Hawthorn Ave), there is a memorial stone to commemorate this event. This is our parish feast and so from Thursday 8th September – Sunday 11th September this year there will be different opportunities for both prayer, celebration and being together as a parish family. Please feel free to invite family, friends and neighbours along to the following events and let them know they'll be warmly welcomed. It's a great time to witness that St. Mary's is very much an active Catholic community who are proud of our faith in Jesus Christ and want others to know about the blessings that Our Lady gives.

Happy Birthday Mrs Austin!!!

On Wednesday we celebrated a very special birthday of one of our parish family - Mrs Mary Austin turned 100 years young and was able to join us for the morning Mass. The parish coffee morning became an extended birthday party with such a joyful atmosphere. Thank you to all who made the day special for Mary.

Retreat

Canon Law requires that a priest makes time to go on retreat regularly to spend time with God. A retreat is a time to pray and listen to what the Lord is saying, to assess both direction and purpose of life as well as to reflect and meditate on God's presence. The Covid pandemic restricted this essential and canonical directive but with life resuming to some normality I've the opportunity to go on Retreat for the first time in two years! I'm going to the Intercession for Priests Retreat at Hinsley Hall in Leeds from Monday to Thursday next week. At the back of church, under the crucifix, there is a box with paper and pens to which you can write any petitions, prayers, issues, people or situations you would like me to pray for. Write down your prayers, place them in the box, and know that on Sunday afternoon I will take them with me on retreat and pray for them all.

This September, the relics of St Bernadette will journey on pilgrimage to England, Scotland, and Wales for the very first time, including a stop at Salford Cathedral.  This very special, once-in-a-lifetime event will provide an opportunity for people across the diocese to experience the special gifts and charisms of Lourdes from our very own cathedral. Throughout the two-day period, parishioners will have the opportunity to visit the relics, in addition to joining us for a number of Masses, services, and other events.

Ukraine Crisis

We are all shocked and appalled at the devastating scenes of the invasion of the Ukraine. Catholic agencies are at the centre of the response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis and supporting those whom have been displaced. We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and all those against war. There are regular updates on the Caritas website on the various ways parishes and schools can support the aid effort. Help us on our journey to net zero

As part of its ongoing commitment to caring for our common home, the Diocese of Salford is working hard to reduce its carbon emissions. To do this, research is being undertaken to calculate our existing carbon footprint, and we are hoping to find out more about travel around the diocese as part of that. As such, we would be very grateful if parishioners could complete a short survey to help us understand a little more about their own journeys to and from church.

Please visit www.dioceseofsalford.org.uk/travel-survey/ to find out more and to complete the survey.

God Bless and keep praying.

Our Lady of Oswaldtwistle, pray for us.

Saint Joseph, pray for us.
