Dear brothers and sisters,
This is just a mid-week update in regards to some more opportunities of prayer for the month of November where we pray for all the faithful departed.
Thursday 11th November
10am Mass, Saint Martin of Tours (Memoria)
St. Martin was born in 316 A.D, became a solider, was baptised and founded a monastery in France under the direction of St. Hilary. He became a Bishop of Tours; here he worked hard to visit his flock, and preach against paganism. He died in 397 A.D, and was honoured as a saint – one of the first non-martyrs so to be honoured.
11am Remembrance Day Prayers & Silence
This Thursday, to mark the day, parishioners are more than welcome to gather around the outside sculpture (by the Lych Gate) of the Pieta, originally from Sacred Heart Church. There will be a two minute silence at 11am followed by prayers for all those who have died in violent conflicts around the world.
Sunday 14th November
2pm Blessing of Graves (Accrington Cemetery)
Before the Covid pandemic, our parish had joined St. Anne & St. Joseph's Accrington for the last two years, to pray for all loved ones who had died among our friends and family and bless the graves at Accrington Cemetery and Dill Hall Cemetery. This year, Fr. Wadsworth, the new parish priest at St. Ann & St. Joseph's, has facilitated this event and invited us at St. Mary's to join him.
On Sunday 14th November we will meet outside Accrington Crematorium at 2pm.
On Sunday 21st November we will meet at Dill Hall cemetery at 2pm.
God Bless and keep praying.
Our Lady of Oswaldtwistle, pray for us.
Saint Joseph, pray for us.
Fr. O'Brien
