Welcome to the Family of Faith
We offer our warmest congratulations and prayers to Baby Penelope Coogan, who was baptised last week here at St Mary's. We rejoice with her parents and godparents as they begin this journey of faith with her, and we ask the Lord to bless Penelope and keep her always in His love.
All Souls' Day - Three Masses for the Faithful Departed
This year, Fr O'Brien will be undertaking the practice of a Roman Catholic priest being permitted to celebrate three Masses on All Souls' Day. This tradition, granted by the Church, allows priests to offer one Mass for a particular intention, one for all the faithful departed, and one for the Holy Father's intentions. At St Mary's, the three Masses for All Souls' Day will be celebrated on Monday 3rd November at: 10.00am, 12.00 noon, 6.00pm. All parishioners are warmly invited to attend one of these Masses as we pray for all who have gone before us, marked with the sign of faith. A Prayer Box will be placed at the front of the Altar throughout November for the names of deceased loved ones. You are invited to write the names of those you wish to be remembered and place them in the box. These names will be prayed for at all Masses during the Month of the Holy Souls.
"Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen."
Blessing of Graves – November, the Month of the Holy Souls
During the month of November, the Church invites us to pray especially for all who have died. It is a time to remember with love those who have gone before us and to commend their souls to the mercy of God. As part of this tradition, there will be the Blessing of Graves at our local cemeteries:
Sunday 2nd November at 2:00pm – Dill Hall Cemetery
Fr O'Brien will be available to bless individual graves.
Sunday 9th November at 2:00pm – Accrington Cemetery
Fr Wadsworth will be offering blessings of graves.
Let us unite in prayer, remembrance, and hope as we honour the holy men and women who have gone before us and commend to God the souls of all the faithful departed.
Requiem Mass for Deceased Clergy
On Thursday 6th November, a Requiem Mass for all deceased clergy of our Deanery of St John Vianney — which includes the parishes in Burnley & Padiham, Hyndburn, Nelson & Colne, and Rossendale Valley — will be celebrated at 10.00 am at St Mary's Church, Yorkshire Street, Burnley. All parishioners are warmly invited to attend and to join in prayerful remembrance of the priests who have faithfully served our communities through their sacramental ministry and pastoral care.
Parish Remembrance Liturgy
Our Annual Remembrance Liturgy will take place on Saturday 8th November at 2.00 pm.
This is a special time for our parish family to come together in prayerful remembrance of all those who have died during the past year. We will commend to God those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith and offer our support and comfort to the families and friends who continue to mourn their loss. All are warmly welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
