World Mission Sunday
This weekend, parishes worldwide celebrate World Mission Sunday. By supporting Missio – the Pope's charity for world mission – we stand united as God's global family, in prayer, solidarity and action. We are called to be 'Missionaries Of Hope Among All Peoples'. We ask you to please remember the work of missionaries in your prayers this week. Find out more about the work of Missio and how to support the charity at missio.org.uk. There will be a collection basket under the large crucifix at the back of church for any donations you would like to give to Missio.

Dilexi te – "I Have Loved You" - New Apostolic Exhortation from Pope Leo XIV
Pope Leo XIV has released his first Apostolic Exhortation, Dilexi te ("I Have Loved You"), calling the Church to renew its love for the poor — not just in charity, but in deep, personal solidarity. He reminds us that Christ is found most powerfully in those who suffer, and that our love for Him is proven in how we care for those in need. This message continues the work of Pope Francis and calls each of us to examine our hearts and lifestyles in light of the Gospel. Read the full text at vatican.va.
How can we at St. Mary's play our part in response to the Holy Father's words? Raise money for a local charity over Advent and Christmas? If so which charity that would directly help others who are struggling and isolated?
Lord Jesus, teach us to love with Your heart — especially those who are overlooked or in need. May our parish be a place where all are welcomed, heard, and loved. Amen.
Extended Times for the Sacrament of Confession
In response to the growing number of parishioners coming for the Sacrament of Confession, Fr. O'Brien will be extending the regular times at St. Mary's. Confession will now be available at the following times:
Fridays: 5:00pm – 5:50pm
Saturdays: 9:00am – 9:50am
You are also very welcome to contact Fr. O'Brien directly to arrange a time outside these hours if you would prefer a longer conversation. The Sacrament of Confession is a beautiful opportunity to encounter the Lord's mercy and begin again. Whether it has been a few weeks or many years, know that you are always welcome.

A Word of Thanks to Our Unsung Heroes
Each Wednesday, a dedicated team of volunteer gardeners gives their time and effort to keep the parish grounds of St Mary's beautifully maintained. They ensure our access points and pathways are clear and safe, offering a quiet but essential service to the life of our parish. Likewise, every Tuesday, another faithful group helps with the cleaning of the church, making sure our sacred space is ready and welcoming for all who come to pray and worship. These volunteers are the unsung heroes of our parish family—generous individuals who give their time freely, often without recognition, but always with love. On behalf of the whole parish, Fr O'Brien would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who serve in these quiet yet vital ministries. If you would be willing to offer your time and energy to support either of these efforts, please don't hesitate to get in touch:
For parish grounds and gardening: contact Navada at keenannavada@gmail.com
For church cleaning: contact Karen at jakey9998@aol.com
Your help would be greatly appreciated—and no experience is necessary! Let us continue to support one another, serve with joy, and build up the Body of Christ in Oswaldtwistle.

Parish Bible Study
Since September, our parish Bible Study group has been journeying through the Book of Acts, exploring — chapter by chapter — the people, events, and prayers that shaped the first thirty years of the Church. We've reflected on the first "conclave," where St. Matthias was chosen to replace Judas; the healing power of the name of Jesus; the tragic story of Ananias and Sapphira, whose dishonesty before God cost them dearly; and the bold witness of St. Peter and the apostles, who faced persecution, imprisonment, and beatings — yet continued to proclaim the Gospel without fear. Each session reminds us of the richness of God's Word, and how it continues to challenge, nourish, and inspire us today. Why not come and see for yourself? Our next session is on Wednesday 22nd October, from 7.00–8.00pm. All you need is yourself and a Bible — and a warm welcome awaits you!
