Sanctuary Lamp. This week's intention is for Helen Carlton.

Hope in the Future. Back in October the Bishop wrote to us about Stage Three of "Hope in the Future", inviting us to think and talk and pray about "Living the Sunday Eucharist". Next week (7th/ 8th Dec) there will be another short Pastoral message from the Bishop, together with a "worksheet" for us to begin our reflection. Every week, from today to the end of August the diocese will be issuing a short reflection for the parish newsletter.

An Introduction: Preparing for Mass: (1st Sunday in Advent) Since today we begin a new liturgical year, this is a good weekend to begin thinking about Sunday Mass! But where do we begin? With the Opening Hymn? The Sign of the Cross? The greeting at the church door? Sunday Mass actually begins during the week before, in our minds and hearts. We should all come to Mass prepared. This preparation can take different forms — for some it might be reflecting on the scriptures beforehand, for others practicing music or readings or writing intercessions. But every parishioner should begin their Sunday Mass before they get to Church! An easy way is to bring an intention. The priest will be offering Mass for a particular intention — either the needs of the parish community or a specific intention he has been asked to offer — and everyone can do the same. Think of your intention before you come to Mass: this week it might be for yourself, or a member of your family or a friend, or for the poor or hungry of the world, or for a particular tragedy you have seen on the news, or a particular joy in your family. Think of what you will offer Mass for — remember your intention, and pray it in the quiet moments of Sunday Mass. You are coming to Mass to meet Jesus — prepare for this meeting by thinking of what you are going to offer Him!

Women and the Bible. In response to the Bishops of England and Wales designating Sept 2019 — Dec 2020 as 'The Year of the Word' we have invited students at Mount Carmel High School to contemplate and produce artwork that reflects the theme "Women in the Bible'. This art exhibition will be on display at the back of church from Sat 7th Dec- Sun 15th Dec.

Mount Carmel Advent Musical Concert. On Wed. 4th Dec at 7pm Mount Carmel High School will have their Advent Concert here at St Mary 's Church. All are welcome to join us for this prayer time in preparing for the coming of Our Saviour.

Confession: Advent there is the call to "prepare" and ready". Why not take advantage of Confession this season to make room for the Lord in our hearts and receive His mercy and forgiveness. Sat 7th Dec Tues 10th Dec 6pm-6:45pm; Sat 14th Dec Tues 17th Dec 6pm- 6:45pm; Sat 21st Dec Tues 24th Dec I0am-10:45am.

Musical Evening 12th December 2019 Ticket sales for the above are selling  slowly (25), and unless we can boost this number, we will have to consider cancelling the event. We realistically require 50/60, which would be an acceptable attendance for the Concert Band and make the event enjoyable. If you're attending mass and not carrying money with you, but wish to attend, please give your name in after mass.

Parish Christmas Raffle. To help raise money for our church there will be a Parish Christmas Raffle with the chance to win a luxury hamper and other prizes. Tickets will be sold at £l a strip.

Parish Family Christmas Decorating. After the fun of decorating the church last year which saw so many people in the parish family come together to enjoy a mince pie or two as well as raising a glass, we thought we would do it again. Please come and help us prepare our church ready for the Christmas season on Wed 18th Dec starting at 7pm.

The Piety Stall: has a beautiful selection of Christmas Cards, Cribs and gifts please do have a look.
