Retiring Collection. This weekend the diocesan retiring collection will be for Peter's Pence which supports
the Holy Father and his charitable initiatives.

First Holy Communions. This weekend our young people in the parish will be making their First Holy
Communion. This will be one of the greatest moments of their lives when they receive Our Lord in the
Blessed Sacrament
. We pray for them and their families as we remember that First Holy Communion is not
the end of our faith journey but the start of it
.

St. Mary's Garden Angels. People are remarking about how well the grounds are looking around the
church. This is all down to parishioners volunteering their time - Thank you so much. Help is always needed
because of the size of our grounds and so if you can spare some time on a Wednesday or another day please

Oliver! Mount Carmel High School will be performing 'Oliver!' on Wednesday 10th July at 7pm. Tickets
are available to buy online from a link under the 'News and Events' section of the school website, or they
are available from the school reception.

Baptism Course. After 10am Mass next week (7th July) the first session of the baptism course will begin
Ossy Mills Group. The next meeting is on Monday 1st July 2019 at 11:30am. All are welcome.

Spirit of Summer. St. Mary's, Clayton-le-Moors is celebrating the 60th birthday of their present church and
are having a concert called 'Spirit of Summer' to mark the occasion on Sunday 7th July at 2:30pm. The A
Cappella Singers under the direction Matthew Quinn will be performing. Tickets cost £7.00, including
,

Supporting and Developing Music Ministry. Following the success of last year's Music Ministry Day at
Salford Cathedral, musicians from all our parishes are invited to gather in Deanery groups, the first of which
will be led by Rebecca Fenwick from the Cathedral choir, to network, share good practice and perhaps pick
up a few new ideas. A date and venue has been set for each Deanery, with meetings beginning at 7.30pm
and lasting no longer than two hours. Deanery of St John Vianney Tuesday 9th July, 7

Next Weekend the diocesan retiring collection will be for Peter’s Pence. “‘Peter’s Pence’ is the most characteristic expression of the participation of all the faithful in the Bishop of Rome’s charitable initiatives in favour of the universal Church. The gesture has not only a practical value, but also a strong symbolic one, as a sign of communion with the Pope and attention to the needs of one’s brothers” (Pope Benedict XVI, Address to the Members of the St Peter Circle, 25 February 2006).

Day for Life 2019 Retiring Collection- Day for Life is the day in the Church’s year dedicated to raising awareness about the meaning and value of human life at every stage and in every condition. This years theme is the Catholic response to domestic violence. In particular the campaign wishes to highlight the need for public education and action regarding domestic violence. www.dayforlife.org

Visiting Sisters from Belarus. Thank you to everyone who was able to support Sister Olga on Wednesday. She and the sisters were very grateful and assure us of their prayers.

Generous Benefactor. Many of you will have known a wonderful parishioner called June Holman who sadly died last year. June’s family approached me last week about a generous financial bequest she had left to the parish in her will. I am very grateful to the Holman Family and have assured them of our continued prayers for June’s kindness – Requiescat in Pace.

Hope in the Future. As many of you know ‘Hope in the Future’ is a diocesan initiative, launched by the Bishop, to help look at aspects of parish life and how they can be developed and strengthened. There will be an evening conference for clergy and laity with Sherry Weddell, a well-known speaker on parish renewal and development in the United States, on Thursday 20th June 2019 at St Bernadette’s Parish Centre, Whitefield, M45 7SX.

5:30pm – Holy Hour / Confessions followed by Tea/Coffee.

7:00pm – 9pm Talk ‘Forming Intentional Disciples’ by Sherry Weddell, followed by Q&A and discussions.

We have totted up, added, calculated and since starting the church building fund in December last year we have raised - £3776.04 Thank you to everyone so far for your huge generosity and the various ways you have helped raise these monies. I know the yellow ‘Our Lady Boxes’ have been very popular and there are still more social events in the pipeline. God Bless you all.
