Hope in the Future. A year ago the Bishop launched a lay initiative called Hope in the Future where churches such as St. Mary's celebrated many aspects of parish life. On Thursday 4th October the Bishop is launching stage 2 of this initiative and asking for lay representatives from each parish to attend an event at Salford Cathedral starting at 7:30pm. If you would like to represent St. Mary's as a lay rep I have four tickets, please do come and see me and I'll happily pass them on to you. There is a bus leaving St. Mary's, Burnley that evening if this helps with any transport issues.
Family Fast Day. Friday 5th October is the CAFOD Family Fast Day where we are invited to have a simple meal in solidarity with those who go hungry throughout the world and help support the work of the charity. There will be a Mass for the Yrs 3 & 4 of our parish schools (Scared Heart, St. Mary's and St. Oswald's) at 9:45am followed by tea and coffee with all monies going to CAFOD. There will also be a soup lunch at 12 noon at the back of church, again with all donations going to CAFOD. Over the weekend Masses you will find CAFOD envelopes at the various entrances to the church for people, if they wish, to give a donation.
