Unwanted Religious Item. Many people have asked me the question about what to do with any religious items they have at home such as statues, rosaries, and prayer cards that have been broken, damaged or passed on to them from a relative or friend. If you have any such religious items that you don't want then you are more than welcome to pass them on to me during the summer and I will either dispose of them in an appropriate way (because many of them have been blessed) or if they are in good condition pass them on to another who could use them. I cannot take any books. God Bless. Fr. O'Brien
Scripture Festival Joy: the Surprise of the Gospel is a Scripture Festival taking place at Salford Cathedral and the Cathedral Centre on 6 October 2018.lt is being organised collaboratively by northern dioceses, members of religious orders and is supported by the Scripture Working Group of the Bishops' Conference. The theme of Joy has been chosen to reflect the appealing message of Pope Francis In The
Joy of the Gospel.
The day is designed to offer a taste of scripture to a wide range of people across the North of England. As well as keynote speakers who will bring insights into how the scriptures offer us joy and hope, there will be a variety of workshops for people to explore the Bible in different ways. There will not just be an opportunity for bible study but also to respond to the text in words, art and prayer. The Word will also be celebrated in liturgy and music.
We hope to attract as many people as possible by providing a varied programme at a very affordable cost.
Full publicity and booking forms will be available shortly.

Fr. O'Brién Parish Visiting
I'm really enjoying the parish visiting and learning about Saint Mary's, both past and present, and the many people who have prayed here. Thank you to all those who have invited me into their homes and the many more who keep ringing, emailing and writing to me to ask for house blessings, Sacrament of the sick or just a chat. If you would like a visit then do contact me: (01254) 232 433 or firstname.lastname@example.org
St Mary's Statue - Coming Home
As you know the 8th September for us as Roman Catholics is traditionally the date when we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year the 8th September falls on a Saturday so to celebrate Our Lady's birthday I've invited our Dean, Fr. Stamp from St. Anne's, to unveil and bless the newly restored parish statue. As part of our prayer there will be the rosary before Mass (6pm) and any child is more than welcome to join the procession at the start of our celebration with a flower as a birthday gift to Mary.
Eucharistic Congress The bishops of England and Wales will hold a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in Liverpool from 7th - 9th September. Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of clergy, religious and laity which promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church. Participants at the Congress will take part in a series of Catechism sessions, focusing on different dimensions of the Eucharist and the daily celebration and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Ahead of the Eucharistic Congress in Genoa in 2016, Pope Francis encouraged everyone to visit the Blessed Sacrament, if possible, every day. Here at St. Mary's we will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday 7th from 6pm and ending with Benediction at 7pm. Again on Saturday 8th we will have Exposition from 9:30am ending with Mass at 10:30am. Do come along to spend some time with the Lord.
Sacramental Programme. If you have a child starting in Year 3 in September who you wish to make their First Holy Communion in 2019, please call into the Sacristy before or after mass and sign the list, giving your and your child's details. We will contact you in September
