This weekend is Education Sunday which is a day of special prayer for students and teachers.

We welcome today our students and staff who will be taking part in the mass, as you know the schools are a very important part of our parish which parishioners of earlier generations paid for.

So that our children could have a Catholic education.

Second Collections.

There is a second collection this weekend for Education Sunday.

There will also be a second collection next week (17th September) for the Home Mission.

Hope in the Future

As Bishop John told us before the summer, he is inviting all parishes to join him in a journey of growing further as missionary parishes, beginning with a celebration of the great gifts that already enrich all our parishes across the Diocese.

On Wednesday 4th October, the Feast of St. Francis, there will be a Commissioning Service at the Cathedral at 7.30pm, preceded by refreshments from 6.30pm.  Bishop John would like every parish to be represented by its priest and two parishioners.

Holydays of Obligations

With effect from the 1st Sunday of Advent 2017, two holydays of obligation are being reinstated. This decision was made by the Bishops of England and Wales, and has been confirmed by the Holy See. The days are:

The Epiphany of the Lord — 6 January (transferred to the adjacent Sunday when it falls on Saturday or Monday as will be the case in 2018)

The Ascension of the Lord — Thursday after 6th Sunday of Easter

ReIgnite

On Sunday 17th September the next ReIgnite Mass, with a focus towards young adults, will take place at Salford Cathedral at 5.30pm. If you have any queries please contact Fr. Peter Tierney on peter.tierney@dioceseofsalford.org.uk

Lourdes at Home: will take place over the weekend of the 7th & 8th October.  As in previous years we will replicate key aspects of a pilgrimage to Lourdes.  To do so we will need volunteers including readers, musicians, preparing the church, transporting the housebound and refreshments.  There will be a meeting on Monday 11th September at 7.30pm in the presbytery for anyone interested in volunteering.  If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to be involved please inform Fr Joe or Maxine Pollard.

Welcome back to the cyclists who arrived home on Friday morning.
