Cycle Ride to Lourdes The riders set off from Accrington Town Hall on Friday at 2pm. Thank you to everyone who came to see them off.  We wish them a safe journey.

Congratulations Mount Carmel. We are delighted to congratulate our hard working and committed class of 2017 on their GCSE examination results and our dedicated staff who have worked so tirelessly to ensure as many pupils as possible achieve the best results they can.  We would also like to thank parents and governors for their continued support. It is very difficult if not impossible to make direct comparisons with previous years due to the significant difference between the new 9 -1 examinations and the increased rigour in grade boundaries associated to the legacy A* - G examinations.  However, our initial analysis does suggest that our pupils have made significant improvements in their achievement in Maths and in particular English and in a number of other subjects where performance appears strong against national averages.

This summer sees the first awards of the new grade 9, in GCSE English language, English literature and maths. A Grade 9 is designed to recognise the very highest performing students across the whole of the country (top 2% of pupils in English and the top 3% of pupils in maths).

Refugee Community Sponsorship Scheme. The next step. A meeting has been arranged with Sean Ryan the Refugee Resettlement Officer, for Thursday 7th September 2017, 7.30pm at the Parish Centre Lock Street.

The Children's Liturgy will start again over the weekend of 9th / 10th of September.

Altar Servers If any child aged 7 or over who has made their First Holy Communion would like to become an altar server, then could the parents please speak to Fr John after Mass.

Readers and Eucharistic Ministers Please could you sign up for your availability, for some weeks in August and also looking ahead to September, on the list in the sacristy. Thank you.

900-mile cycle ride in 11 days

Hi everyone,

Could you possibly consider sharing this email with friends and colleagues in the hope that they might consider supporting the deserving cause(s) for which we are cycling 900 miles from Accrington to Lourdes and Spain.

Many thanks

Eric

900-mile cycle ride in 11 days

Myself and 2 friends begin this momentous bike ride on Friday 25th August intending to cover:

-          4 days to Portsmouth (then ferry to St Malo)

-          7 days in France to Lourdes and Spain

The one of the charities we are raising money for is CLIC SARGENT – an organisation which focusses on Young Lives v Cancer, and whose vision is "that everyone under 25 with cancer, and their families, will get the support and help they need during their cancer treatment and beyond, including bereaved families living with emotional pain."

People willing to make a very kind donation can do so via Just Giving at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cycle-lancashire2lourdes

Anyone willing to make a donation via the traditional paper sponsorship also has the opportunity to direct a donation towards two other deserving causes – Lourdes Pilgrimage Funding and/or Mary's Meals. these can be found at Local Churches (St Mary's Ossy; St Ann's and St Joseph's Accy; St Pauls Ossy and others) Local hostelries (St Mary's Parish center; Ossy Social club; the Britannia Haslingden old rd) Local Beauty Parlours (Adams; Arena; Jenny Dewhurst-Fern Gore)

Many thanks, and we will try to keep everyone up to date with our progress via Facebook etc..

"And when night comes, and retrospect shows that everything was patchwork and much which one had planned left undone, when so many things rouse shame and regret, then take all as it is, lay it in God's hands, and offer it up to Him.
