CAFOD Soup Lunch is usually held on the first Friday of the month. As Family Fast Day is on 10th March this year it will be held then.

 

16th – 23rd May 2017 Catholic Pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth

This Pilgrimage is being organised and led by Fr Michael Waters. There are posters at the back of church and Fr John has some booking forms. Some parishioners have been on pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Fr Waters in previous years and speak highly of how well organised and spiritual it is. I suggest that you enquire early. You book your own flights so the earlier the cheaper. For even more information contact Fr Waters on 01282 423824. There will be an information evening at St John's Parish Hall, Ivy St, Burnley at 7pm on Fri 3rd March.

 

Old Palms Have you still got last year's palms in your house, car etc? Then please place them in the box at the back of church and we will burn them to make this year's Lenten Ashes.

 

Collection Envelopes If you would like to have a new set of envelopes in April please let us know. If you are paying tax and would like us to claim back that tax via "gift-aid" then you can donate by either envelop or standing order, either way you need to let Sean Mullen or Fr John know by the end of January. If do not pay tax, then you can either use an envelope, or just donate by placing your gift in the collection basket without an envelope. If you were paying tax and no longer do so please inform Fr John or Sean Mullen as soon as possible.

 

Parish Centre Membership The annual membership fee of the Parish Centre is now due. If you wish to be a member, then the subscription is just £5. This can be paid after Masses to Margret Duhan. There will be an AGM on Sunday 19th March at 2pm in the Parish Centre. Please could members attend this important meeting about your club.

Fr Joseph Waring SJ As you know Fr Waring has said many a time when Fr John has been away. He was a member of the Jesuit Community based at Stonyhurst and was also Parish Priest at Ss Michael & John's, Clitheroe, before retiring. The Reception of his body into Church and Mass will take place on Tuesday at 7.30pm. His Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday 22nd February at 12.30pm.

Fr Harry Jones Died after a short illness last Monday. He was 73 and had retired. He spent most of his priestly life around Bolton and Horwich.

March Monthly Newsletter Please note that the monthly newsletter for March will be published next weekend. If you have any articles, or notices, please let me have them by Tuesday evening of this week. Remember that Ash Wednesday falls on 1st March so anything to do with Lent needs to go in this edition. Everything to do with Easter will go in the April Edition.

 

Church Heating Due to an electrical problem the heating is not fully working yet. Hopefully, next week all will be up and running and it all commissioned.

Fr Joseph Waring SJ RiP As you know Fr Waring has said many a time when Fr John has been away. He was a member of the Jesuit Community based at Stonyhurst and was also Parish Priest at Ss Michael & John's, Clitheroe, before retiring. The Reception of his body into Church will take place on Tuesday 21st Feb at 7.30pm followed by Mass. His Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday 22nd February at 12.30pm also at Ss Michael & John's in Clitheroe. Fr John will be attending if anyone would like a lift.

 

New Heating System is now fully up and running. It will take time to adjust to the right temperatures so please bear with us if it is too hot or not quite to your liking! A big THANK YOU to all those who have helped out with cleaning over the months of work. It has been great the support given at such times.

New Heating System is now up and running. The overhead heaters are now being stripped out and the ceiling fans are in the process of being fitted to help circulate the warm air. Hopefully it will all be completed this coming week.
