Happy Mothers' Day to all our Mum's

Thank you

Just a big thank you to all those who came along to the "24 Hours with the Lord". I am sure that many of you made great sacrifices especially with the poor weather. It was good to see so many coming into church to spend time with the Lord during this Year of Mercy when he asks us to visit the sick, the stranger, the imprisoned, feed the hungry, tend to the thirsty and the naked and bury the dead. We have to be able to recognise his face in them, but we have to recognise His Face in the Eucharist too. I hope this also reminds us that visiting the church regularly to pray can help us so much. Thanks to the choir and those who were involved with the Taize hour of prayer.

Thank you also to those who came to the meeting about the Bishop's visit. We are already preparing some of the projects suggested by those who came. We hope to be able to use the visit as fully as we can to commemorate those who gave their lives in defence of our values and to enable the Bishop to meet as many as possible.

Further thanks to those who came together to discuss the future of parish life. There was a lot of rich advice offered and deep thoughts shared. We hope to have the minutes of our meeting available to everyone very soon.

Thanks also to those who came down to clear the paths of snow and to put down grit to help people's footing when coming and going to and from church.

Thanks, as well to the many of you who turned up for the Requiem of Florence Jepson. I know that many of you couldn't be present due to other commitments, but you were well represented by those who came on your behalf. Whatever we do we represent everyone when we do something on behalf of the parish.                         Fr John

"24 Hours for the Lord"

Pope Francis has invited us, as part of the Jubilee "Year of Mercy" to dedicate "24 hours for the Lord" over the period Friday 4th – Saturday 5th March. Below is a timetable of events. However, it is important that times are covered, when there is not an event on, by people "Watching and Praying" before the Blessed Sacrament. We have to have two people present at all times. Please come and pray together as a family or a couple or by yourself! It is important that you sign up for times on the list at the back of church. If times are not covered then we can't go ahead with this. Please think of Our Lord's words to his apostles the night before he died, "CAN YOU NOT SPEND ONE HOUR IN PRAYER WITH ME" We are only asking people to commit to 20 mins!!! If you wish to spend longer just sign up for a longer time.

Friday 7.30am Mass to start the "24 hrs with the Lord"

9 – 9.30am Children from Sacred Heart School

9.30 – 10am Children from St Oswald's School

10.45 – 11.45am Children from St Mary's School

1.15 – 2.15pm Children from St Mary's School

7 – 7.45pm The Choir will sing Latin Motets

8 – 9pm there will be a "Taize" hour of prayer with music from Taize.

From 9 pm until 11pm the church will be lit with candle light for "Night Fever" which is where people are invited to come and pray and light a candle. This can help people who may not have been to church for some time. Please suggest this to a friend or a younger member of the family.

Saturday - 11am Mass

After Mass and during the rest of the day there will just be opportunities for people to call into church and pray.

6.30pm Mass and then the 24hrs will be complete.

There is a rota at the back of Church for people to sign up to "watch."
