Baptism Course: For all parents who wish to have their child baptised, a course for just one hour takes place on the first Sunday of the month after the 10.00am Mass. The next one is next Sunday 4th May

Eucharistic Ministers We are approaching the time when we commission new Eucharistic Ministers. If you would like to offer to become a Eucharistic Minister at the Altar or can find time to take Communion to the sick and housebound then please speak with Fr John. Alternatively, if any Eucharistic Ministers no longer wish to continue please speak with Fr John. There will be a course for Eucharistic Ministers sometime in June.

Parish Magazine The new edition of the Parish Magazine is now available. All proceeds from this edition will go to supporting the Hospital Chaplaincy. I am thankful to John Hughes, all advertising sponsors and those who have contributed articles to help with this venture.

Organ Recital This Wednesday 30th April an organ recital will take place here at St Mary’s at 7.30pm. It will be given by Carol Wareing supported by the Topaz Choir. The music will range from ancient to modern with pieces from John Rutter and Schubert to Handel and Lennon/McCartney. This promises to be a very special evening. A £5 donation is all that is asked from those who come.

Lourdes Group Anyone who would like to donate bric-a-brac items that can be sold at a table top sale, please contact Marie Leaver 01254 384557. Proceeds in aid of the Lourdes fund. Thank you.

Re-Upholstering the Church Kneelers Due to a very generous anonymous donation, we will soon be making the kneelers a lot more comfortable.

Thanks from CAFOD We have received a thank  you letter for the £217.80 that was sent to CAFOD as a result of the last Family Fast day.

The National Board of Catholic Women (NBCW) is trying to re-establish a group in Salford Diocese and invite women to a day of reflection on the letter of Pope Francis: “The joy of the Gospel”. This is an opportunity to come together, and explore how the Papal Exhortation speaks to us in our everyday lives. This will be led by Linda Jones, from the CAFOD theology team. Sunday 27th April   This Sunday Pope Francis will Canonise the former Popes John XXIII and John Paul II in Rome. These were two great Popes of our time (well some of us!).
Papal Magazine If you still need to collect your ordered Magazine, this will be available from the sacristy or the Piety Stall after Mass. Price: £3.50 if not already paid for.
Divine Mercy Sunday organised by the Legion of Mary, Blackburn & District, this Sunday 27th April at St Joseph’s Church Audley Range, Blackburn. St Mary’s School are holding an anniversary celebration on April 25th to celebrate the school's 50th year on the Mayfield Avenue site. There is a Mass at 10.45am in Church to which all are welcome and then from 2pm onwards the school will be open to visitors to see the school in action.

Keeping the Church Open A new modern alarm system, with CCTV, is now installed. I hope that many of you will be able to take advantage and call in to Church, especially parents on their way to school and after collecting the children. Entrance will be by the side door.

Friday 07.30am Mass As quite a few people enjoyed having a 07.30 am Mass during Lent we will continue with this practice until after Easter, with the exception of the first Friday of the month when we will have the midday Mass followed by a Soup Lunch for CAFOD. As usual breakfast of tea/coffee and toast will be served after.

Parish Centre AGM  The Annual General Meeting has been set for this Monday 7th April at 7pm. If you haven’t yet renewed your subscription for this year, please do so by calling in at the centre or by letting one of the committee members know. You can renew at the back of church.

It will not be decided until the beginning of June which VIPs will be travelling with us. Deciding who goes will be according to certain priorities set by the group leadership. Ossy Food Bank has moved In order to meet the needs of the community, the Ossy Food Bank has now moved to Rhyddings Methodist Church, Chapel St. This has better storage and distribution facilities. It will still be open from 1 – 5pm on Mondays

Day of Prayer for Vocations The Diocese has designated next Friday for our parish as a day of prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Please remember to pray for vocations especially for Gavin Landers and 6 others in training for our diocese.
