Fr John. unfortunately Fr John has had a few setbacks in his recovery due to side effects. At present he hopes to be back before Christmas but cannot give definite dates at this stage. He is very grateful of all the prayers that are being offered for him and also for the responsibility being taken on by many of you to make sure people are continually cared for. He is very aware of the support of all the clergy who have helped out on top of their present busy schedules
NEW PROCEDURES FOR THE PARISH SICK LIST.  To comply with guidelines for data protection, anyone wishing to have their name, a relative, or friend included on the weekly sick list which is published in the newsletter must give or seek their written permission. Please leave names and written permission with Fr John or Jean. Thank you.
The Parish Magazine The new edition which supports “Oswaldtwistle Churches Foodbank” is now available. Cost Minimum  £1 donation, all of which goes to supporting the running costs and expenses of the Food Bank.  The Food Bank is open Mondays 1pm to 5pm and operates on a voucher system. Containers for food donations in Church.
CAFOD’s Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Appeal a total of £1682.77 has now been sent to CAFOD thank you for your support. You can also donate online at cafod.org.uk/typhoon, or by calling CAFOD 0500 85 88 85.    

Baptism Course: For all parents who wish to have their child baptised, a course for just one hour takes place on the first Sunday of the month after the 10.00am Mass. The next one is this Sunday 1st Dec

Vatican Family Questionnaire Preparations are well under way for a meeting of Bishops in Rome in 2014 to discuss family life - an extraordinary general session of the Synod of Bishops.
You can play a key part in this by responding to the Holy See questionnaire on this important subject. The  questionnaire is available on

.Quiz Night: Parish Centre – Wed night at 8pm Jackpot is at £50.

Rossendale Encore Concert Band;  Will be playing here at St Mary's on the 19th December from 7.30pm - 9.30pm,  The evening will start with traditional music and conclude with a Christmas Special including carols to sing along to.  Tea and coffee will be served in the interval and we will end the evening with mulled wine and mince pies.  A suggested donation of £5, payable on the night, is requested, all monies raised will go towards St Mary's Lourdes Group.  The event is open to non parishioners and there is a list at the back of church for anyone who would like to come along.

Lourdes Group Cake sale: We are holding a cake sale after Masses next weekend to raise funds for the Lourdes Group. If you are able to help by making cakes or manning the stall please let John Hughes, Marie Lever or Kathleen Dwyer know.

Present’s for the Elderly after Mass on Sun the 15th Dec we will be wrapping the presents to be distributed to the elderly of the parish and would like some help from the young people of High School age and above. If you can help please contact Alana Thank you.
Mount Carmel 2nd - 6th December is multi faith week and students from all the parish schools will be making posters, prayers and portraits about what it means to be in a Multi faith community. On Friday 6th December from 3.15 - 4.15 there will be a display of all the work in Mount Carmel school hall.

The Parish Centre Annual Children’s Christmas Party will be held at the Parish Centre Lock St, on Saturday 21st December from 3pm till 6pm. Tickets £3.

Snow Clearance - if the snow comes we need to make contingencies to clear the paths so people can access the Church safely. Fr John usually did this and others would also volunteer, but it may be better if we had a list of volunteers we can call on in such a case, as Fr John will not be able to do it. People may need to bring snow shovels/spades. We have rock salt.
The Salford Cathedral is hosting a Christmas concert in aid of Caritas and Loaves and Fishes at St Johns Cathedral, Salford Sunday 8 December, 7:30pm £5 for concert and refreshments Two wonderful choirs Tickets can be bought on the door or purchased in advance from Mary Scully on 0161 817 2250 or m.scully@caritassalford.org.uk

Next Sunday sees the start of Advent and the start of the next of the Church's Liturgical Year. So we will move into Year A. So this next year we will be focussing on the Gospel of Matthew. The weekday readings for the Ordinary during the week will move to year 2.

Gavin Landers - please remember Gavin in your prayers as he receives the Ministry of Acolyte at a Mass this Tuesday evening at 6pm. The ministry will be conferred by Bishop McGough. This is one of the first important stages in Gavin's road to the Priesthood.

Retiring Collection CAFOD’s Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Appeal last week’s collection raised £532.77 Thank you..  CAFOD is working with local Church partners to provide emergency shelter, food and water. You can also donate online at cafod.org.uk/typhoon, or by calling CAFOD on 0500 85 88 85.    We have also received anonymous donations of £1000 and £150. to be forwarded to CAFOD.

Deanery Discussions A series of “ Catholic Social Thinking Talks” are to be held in the Deanery, the first being on Tuesday 26th November 7.15pm to 9.15pm at St Mary of the Assumption Burnley, entitled “What is Catholic Social Thinking ?.  The talks are free and include refreshments. Please see poster at the back of church for more information

Ossy Food Bank is open Mondays 1pm to 5pm
Christ the King/Youth Sunday This Sunday 24th Nov we are having a youth Mass at 3pm for all young people in year 6 plus. We will meet together at church at 1 pm to plan the mass through art drama and music. If you have an instrument you can play and would to join in with the hymns please bring it with you.  After Mass we will 'share a pud' so please bring a cake or pudding with you and we will share them.
Fr McLoughlin is continuing his recovery, and wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and best wishes during his recent ill health.

Christmas Fayre  Next Saturday 30th November 11am – 2pm Civic Arts Centre Osw. Lots of stalls and games, and a café for your lunch. Please come along and support your local Scout Group. Admission 50p each children free but must be accompanied by an adult.

We have received an anonymous donation of £1000 to be forwarded to CAFOD to help start this appeal, if anybody would like to make any private donations please contact Jean Partington. As you can imagine the money needs to be sent off by the end of the week.

Preparing for winter  If you can help in any of the following areas please add your name and contact details to the lists in church or in the Sacristy;
Eucharistic Ministers; Some parishioners are unable to get to Mass due to the weather or short term illness, if you are able to take them Communion for a brief period please add your name to the list in the Sacristy.
Winter shoppers; If you are willing to collect some groceries for a parishioner whilst doing your own shopping would you add your name to the list at the back of church.
Check and Chat; , if you feel this is something you could do add your name to the list.If you feel you need short term support over the winter please let us know, in the coming weeks we will publish contact details of those co-ordinating the support.

 DATE CHANGE  Mount Carmel Christmas Party; This has now been re-scheduled for the 16th December from 12 noon -2.30pm. We have now filled our allocated places, subject to any extra places being given to us.

Oswaldtwistle Food Bank: is now open each Monday 1pm till 5pm at Harvey Street Community Centre. The centre operates on a voucher system. See leaflet in Church for further details.

Missio St Mary’s sent £4211.94 in 2012. Thank you to all collectors and those who hold a red box. A special thanks to former leader Margaret Duggan and present Co-ordinators Ann-Marie Radigan and Mandy Gallagher.
